Chief of Police Albert Podevels Jr. in a bit of pre-Mother’s Day mis-schedule,
was flagged down by expectant parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Flink of Abbotsford,
to aid them in their race against the stork on May 10, 1972.
The Chief radioed ahead for Dr. Koch to meet them at the clinic, and was
prepared to provide police escort to the hospital, but time had run out. Mrs.
Flink gave birth to a set of twin boys, the first arrived at 1 a.m. in the front
seat of the Flink car, with Chief Podevels assisting Dr. Koch. Mrs. Podevels
stated her husband holding the first baby called her on the radio phone and told
her to get over quick. The second twin was born at 1:02 a.m.
After the babies were born an ambulance was called to take them to St. Joseph’s
Hospital in Marshfield.
Just as surprise as everyone else was Mrs. Flink, who did not know she was going
to have twins and who did not expect the babies for another two weeks.
Mrs. Podevels stated her husband has still not calmed down.
The twins, weighing five pounds, five ounces and five pounds, seven and a half
ounces were named Scott Conrad and William Allen.
Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Flink, Colby, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hahm of
Granton.
