Asplin, Zella A. (2 September 1891 – 15 November 1978)

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, for Mrs. Zella A. Asplin, Greenwood. Mrs. Asplin, 87, passed away in the Neillsville Memorial Hospital, November 15, after a brief illness.

Mrs. Asplin was born on September 2, 1891, in the Town of Weston to George and Alice (Kayhart) Harper. After receiving her education in the Town of Weston, and she married Clinton Asplin in September 16, 1913 in a Greenwood ceremony. They farmed in the Town of Weston until his death in 1955. After her husband’s death, she moved to Greenwood and for the past several years lived with her children. She was a member of the Christie United Methodist Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. George (Carol) Scherer of Greenwood, Mrs. Dale (Bethel) Armitage of Neillsville and Mrs, Ray (Jessie) Ampe of Marshfield, 18 grandchildren, and 40 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death besides her husband were two sons, Herbert and Craig, two sisters, Jessie and Hattie, and one brother, Herbert.

Attending the services from out of town were Larry Ampe, Mr. Calvary; Mr/Mrs. Steve Ampe, Zion, Il.; Mr/Mrs. Douglas Ampe, Charles Ampe, Joann Staschi, Mr./Mrs. James Asplin & family, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Ampe, of Marshfield; Mr./Mrs. Erv Sankey & family, William Sankey and Martin Biedringer, of Milwaukee; Mr./Mrs. Roger Scherer, Grand Rapids, Mi.; Mr./Mrs. Richard Scherer, Mr./Mrs. Chester Turnquist, of Greenwood; Mr./Mrs. Thomas Armitage, St. Paul, Mn.

Joining them were Mr./Mrs. Robert Armitage, Random Lake; Kirk Asplin & son, St. Louis, Mo.; Mr./Mrs. Len Bielinski & family, Wautoma; Mr./Mrs. Terry Wenzel, Stevens Point; Mrs. Gene Beyer and Jenni & Eva Asplin, Prophetstown, Il.; Mrs. Donald Asplin, Middleton; Mrs. Harold Walker, Osseo; Mr./Mrs. Robert Beyer, Shawano; Mr./Mrs. Lloyd Sackett, Mr./Mrs. Louis Shaw, Black River Falls; and Mr./Mrs. Hubert Asplin, Georgetown, Mn.

The Rev. William Noble, pastor of the Neillsville United Methodist Church, was to officiate with burial being made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Music offered at the funeral service was “Children Of The Heavenly Father” and “Be Not Dismayed,” sang by Corrine Armitage, accompanied by Iris Musil. Pallbearers included Charles and Larry Ampe, James Asplin, Neil and Tom Armitage and Roger Scherer.
