Field, Hazel (2 October 1909 – 25 June 1979)

Hazel Field, 69, died suddenly Monday, June 25, at her home in Black River Falls. She was born on October 2, 1909, in the Town of Albion in Jackson County to Olas and Ida (Nelson) Wold. She married Martin Field on September 9, 1936, in Black River Falls. They lived in Hatfield many years. He died in 1956.

Mrs. Field lived in Jackson County all her life and was an elementary school teacher, starting at the Lee School west of Melrose in 1928. She also taught in Cloverdale, Shamrock, Disco, Pine Vale, Bautch, Holen, Hatfield, and Gebhardt Schools. She had been a kindergarten teacher in Black River Falls for twelve years prior to her retirement in 1975.

A member of Delta Kappa Gamma Professional teachers’ sorority, Mrs. Field was past president of the local chapter. She also was president of the public affairs department of the Black River Falls Women’s Club and a member of the American Lutheran Church Women and the Ruth Circle of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Black River Falls.

Survivors include two brothers, David and Orrin Wold, both of Black River Falls, and two nephews.

Services were held Friday afternoon in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Black River Falls with the Rev. Al H. Houts officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery at Black River Falls. The Torgerson Funeral Chapel of Black River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
