Nearly 200 persons attended the 25th anniversary celebration of the Clark County Bowmen’s Club at St. John’s Lutheran Church Hall in Withee Saturday night.

Frank Sarafin, Thorp, Clark County traffic officer, was master of ceremonies. A member of the Bowmen’s Club, Sarafin introduced Don Johnson, Milwaukee Sentinel sport writer and former resident of Neillsville, who spoke on the pros and cons of archery deer hunting.

Carl Jensen, president of the southern division of the club, and Klip Klabon, president of the northern division, extended thanks to all who cooperated to make the anniversary meaningful.

The 1973 successful deer hunters, who received awards included Robert Klinke, Chuck Sowieja, Eric Thomas, Church Hare, Jim Caliebe, Galen Hasenfang, Bill Stabnow, Clayton Braun, Jeff Anderson, Kurt Caliebe, Jerome Stremikis, Terry Dorn, Louis Young and Darrel Horn.

The club has a taken a total of 238 deer with bow and arrow since its organization in 1947. Lester Jens, Owen, with 17 deer, and Clayton Braun, Greenwood, with 16 deer, head the list of successful hunters.

About five years ago, the club was divided into two geographical divisions for monthly meetings, but the southern and northern divisions united for the annual venison dinner and awards night. The northern division meets in the clubhouse at Withee. The southern division has a clubhouse 5 miles west of Greenwood, in Mead Township.
