Mr. and Mrs. Leo Hedler, Thorp, announce the engagement of their daughter, Joyce, to Vernon D. Whirry, son of Mrs. Vivian Whirry, 104 Harding Avenue, Eau Claire.

Miss Helder is presently attending District One Technical Institute, and will graduate in May. Her fiancé is employed with SM Electric Supply Company.

A September 8, 1973 wedding is planned.

Miss Joyce Ruth Hedler became the bride of Vernon D. Whirry at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, 1973 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Thorp, Wisconsin. Celebrants of the nuptial high mass were Reverend Francis J. Brockman, Thorp, Wisconsin, and Reverend Bernard Brezinski of St. Pat’s Catholic Church, Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Miss Candy Horn, Thorp, Wisconsin, sang “The Hawaiian Wedding Song”, “For All We Know”, The Lord’s Prayer”, “Receive It In Your Heart” and “Ave Maria”, with Mr. Joe Possley, Thorp, Wisconsin, as organist.

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Leo W. Hedler, Stanley, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Vivien Whirry, Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a floor length gown styled of polyester crepe, with an empire waistline. Embroidered Venice lace trimmed the neck of the stand-up collar and around the bottom of the flounced skirt that swept to a chapel train. A matching headpiece of Venice lace, trimmed with orange blossoms from her mother’s wedding veil, adorned the chapel length veil. She carried a bouquet of Stephanotis and ivy.

Miss Janet Hedler, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, was her sister’s maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Char Hansen, Dallas, Texas, Debbie Seeger, Racine, Wisconsin, Mary Ann Smasal, Thorp, Wisconsin, friends of the bride, and flower girl was Suzann Miller, Stanley, Wisconsin, niece of the bride. They wore long sheer gowns of aqua chiffon over taffeta, with empire styled embroidered bib at the front trimmed with Chantilly lace.

John Stange, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, friend of the groom, was best man. Groomsmen were Gen Larson, Tom Gohler and Larry Larson, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, all friends of the groom, and Mike Lencowski, St. Paul, Minnesota, cousin of the bride. Ring bearer was James Soli, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, nephew of the bride. Ushers were: Jerome Hedler, Cedar Falls, Wisconsin, brother of the bride, and Dale Whirry, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, brother of the groom.

A reception and dinner for 240 guests was held at the American Legion Hall, Thorp, Wisconsin.

The bride, a graduate of Thorp High School, 1967, attended the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire and graduated from District One Technical Institute, Eau Claire in May 1973. She is presently employed by Charles Nyberg, DDS, Eau Claire. The groom, a graduate of Memorial High, Eau Claire in 1966, is self-employed with General Business Services.

After a wedding trip to Northern Wisconsin, the newlyweds will make their home at 725 ½ Hudson Street, Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
