John, Jean Dolores (21 December 1925 – 3 August 2021)

Jean D. John, 95, of Viroqua, (formerly of Thorp) passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at Creamery Creek Assisted Living in Viroqua.

Jean Dolores Jordi was born on December 21, 1925, in Elgin, IL, the daughter of Fred A. and Georgia (Bellows) Jordi. She was raised and educated in the Elgin area and graduated from Elgin High School in 1943. During her teenage years, Jean worked as a clerk at Block & Kuhl's Department Store. She was united in marriage to Walter F. John on June 22, 1946, at the United Methodist Church in Elgin. Jean was a city girl who married a farmer, so her future was set for her. Together, Jean and Walter farmed in the Marengo, IL area from 1946 until 1971. They moved to Granton, in 1971 and farmed there for 1 1/2 years before buying a hobby farm in the Town of Withee, rural Thorp.

Jean always had a large garden where she would do canning of fruit and vegetables each year. Additionally, she drove school bus for Rosemeyer Bus Service for over 20 years and worked part time at Belanger's Dept. Store in Thorp. In 1992, Jean and Walter downsized even further, and moved into the City of Thorp. They decided to enjoy life, along with traveling and playing cards, until Walter's death in 2009. Jean continued to live at her home on Washington Street until she could no longer be on her own due to her eyesight.

In 2018, Jean moved in with her daughter, Penny, in Viroqua, and started traveling with Penny on her many adventures with her job. Then, in 2019, Jean moved into an Assisted Living facility in Viroqua named Creamery Creek. It was a huge adjustment for Jean, but like a trooper, she got used to it.

Jean passed on her husband's birthday, which ironically, was the very day both would be 95 years old. She was a loving, caring, and generous mother who especially loved her grandson and her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son: Robert (Tina) John of Eldora, IA, her daughter: Penny Schoenrock of Viroqua; her grandson: Tyson (Tracy) John; and 2 great-grandchildren: Abigail & Kale John; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter on February 13, 2009; her son-in-law: Dennis Schoenrock, and her brother: Alan W. Jordi.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Thorp Funeral Home in Thorp. Pastor Paul Roberts will officiate, and burial will follow in East Thorp Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, from 12:00 noon until time of service.

Jean entered into eternal life by taking the Lord's hand and walking through the pearly gates.
