Holmes, Amanda M. (8 February 1895 – 6 June 1979)

Funeral services were held Saturday morning, June 9, for Amanda M. Holmes, 84, who resided at 415 W. Fourth St., Neillsville. Mrs. Holmes passed away in her home, June 6, after a long illness.

Mrs. Holmes was born on February 8, 1895, to Henry W. and Anna (Angerstein) Holmes in Illinois. In 1906, she moved with her parents to the Neillsville area and received the remainder of her education in the old Mound School.

She worked in the area until October 2, 1923, when she married Leslie Holmes in Neillsville ceremonies. The couple moved to the city, and she then worked at the old hospital and later for the public library,

Surviving her is one daughter, Mrs. Harry (Dorothy) Ockerl, Neillsville; one brother, George Yunker, Tucson, Az, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her husband, 1956; and one sister, Erna.

The services were held in the Gesche Funeral home with the Rev. Gary Clark officiating, and burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” was the musical selection provided by Deon Spangler.

Pallbearers were Alfred Kuenkel, Herman Hemp, Robert Ockerl, Charles Neff, Larry McDonald and Frank Celler.

And those attending from out of town were Mr. /Mrs. George Yunker, Tucson, Az, and Mr./Mrs. Vern Nolan and family, Wisconsin Rapids.
