Greenwood HS Alumni (39th – 26 May 1979)

A Greenwood H S alumni reunion banquet was held Saturday, May 26, for the 39th time with 150 attending the evening event.

Master of ceremonies was Gladys (Drew) Ackerman, class of 1949, now a resident of Sumpter, S.C. Robert Worden, class of 1942, gave the invocation and benediction with the official welcome offed by Charles J. Pouba, present elementary school principal.

Musical entertainment was provided by students from the high school, including Cindy Scheuerman singing “Let There Be Peace On Earth” and “The Way We Were,” accompanied by Janet Jaenke. Duane Decker and Susan Richmond played a piano Duet.

Special recognition was given to the Class of 1929. Members present were Godfrey Dyre, Grace (Verhulst) Dugre, Margaret (Holm) Follet, Fred Hohl, Lloyd Haemer, Dorothy (Vollrath) Irvine, Harry Liebzeit, Almond Leach, Zelda (Mason) Longridge, Grace (Longridge) Metcalf, Alvera (Dahlby) Schwarze, Caroline (Iverson) Schwarze, Herbert Schwarze, Leona (Olson) Turnquist and Rosella (Cronin) Zickert.

The Outstanding Alumni Award” for 1979 went to Harry Liebzeit, class of 1929, a Greenwood resident. It was presented by Dr. William Olson, Greenwood.

The committee for the 1980 event will be Louie Landini, Carol Turnquist, Roger Standiford and Helen Axelson.
