Butler, Michelle (Engagement - 1984)

A July 14 wedding is being planned for Michelle Butler and Rick Elmhorst. Parents of the couple are Lee and Bobbie Butler and Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Elmhorst, all of Lakeland, Florida. Rick’s grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Elmhorst of Granton and Mr. and Mrs. Levi Shirley of Humbird. The bride-to-be attends Polk Community College and is employed by First Assembly of God Church. Rick is a graduate of Florida Southern College and is employed by WCIE-radio.

Jordahl, Joyce (DAR Winner - 1984)

Selected as the 1984 winner of the Daughters of the American Revolution citizenship award for Neillsville High School was Joyce Jordahl, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Jordahl. Her school activities include the National Honor and Spanish Societies, forensics, FBLA, annual, student council, band dramatics, class officer roles and sports.

Rhoades, Glenna (Secretary/Treasurer - 1984)

Glenna Rhoades of rural Neillsville was recently elected secretary-treasurer of the Wisconsin chapter of the International Flying Farmers organization. The election took place at the April 27-29 annual Flying Farmers meeting, it’s 25th, held at the American Resort at Lake Geneva.

Joining Glenna at the session was her husband, Herb, and Dale and Marjorie Short, all of Neillsville. Flying Farmer members at the silver jubilee meeting came from Wisconsin, North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Saskatchewan.

The next chapter activity will take place in Neillsville where the annual proficiency test will be held. Member pilots, students and those who achieved Landit wards will be given check-rides by certified flight instructors.

Van Gorden, Holly (Award Winner - 1984)

Holly Van Gorden of New Mexico and formerly of Neillsville was an award winner in the recently held Watercolor West Annual Exhibition at Redlands, California. Her entry, “Near & Far” received the National Watercolor Society Award Watercolor West, an organization dedicated to transparent watercolor painting, was founded in 1967 by a group of southern Californian painters. Membership is now national and is earned. To become an active member and exhibit in members show, three acceptances in annual Watercolor West exhibits are required. Gerald F. Brommer of Los Angeles juried the prestigious show which draws some 100 entries from all over the United States and occasionally from foreign countries, from which approximately 100 paintings are hung.

Holly Van Gorden is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Struble of Neillsville and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Van Gorden of Neillsville.

Kuhn, Mary Ellen (28 April 1984)

The Rev. Gary Clark officiated at the Saturday afternoon, April 28, wedding of Mary Ellen Kuhn and Duane Bol at the Neillsville United Church of Christ. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Kuhn, Rt. 1 Neillsville, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bol, Woodville.

Music at the service was offered by Mr. and Mrs. John Garbisch, accompanied by Eileen Zank.

Serving as maid of honor was Virginia Kuhn of Madison. She was joined by Kay Poppe of Baldwin, Barb Campbell of Roberts, Lori Ruppel of Eau Claire and Debbie Bol of Woodville. Bestman was Terry Peloquin of Eau Claire. He was joined by Mike Dorwin of Woodville, Scott Larsen and Tim Veenendall, both of Baldwin, and Jason Kuhn of Neillsville.

Ushers were Edward Kuhn of Neillsville and Duane Newton and Steve Geurkink, both of Baldwin. Flowergirl was Tammy Kuhn of Neillsville while ring bearer was Tommy Geurkink of Baldwin.

The bride chose a bishop-sleeved gown of deep lace ruffles on the front and back and featuring a Victorian-style collar with ribbon trim. Her full lace chapel train was tiered and her veil was of lace and of fingertip length. She carried a cascade of yellow roses. Her attendants wore spaghetti-strapped gowns in a maize hue, which featured pleated flowing skirts and ribbon-trimmed Victorian-style lace capes. They carried bouquets of yellow carnations with white daisies.

The new Mr. and Mrs. Bol will make their home in Baldwin. She is a 1980 graduate of Neillsville High School and in 1982 from District I Tech-Eau Claire. She is employed as a waitress by Wagner’s 66 1/2 Lanes, Eau Claire. The groom is a 1975 graduate of Baldwin-Woodville High School and is a dairy farmer and part-time milk hauler.

Vincent, Pamela Jo (14 April 1984)

Pamela Jo Vincent and Timothy John Yaeger were united in marriage on Saturday, April 14, in Neenah ceremonies. The Rev. Richard Maurice officiated at Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neenah. Music at the service was offered by Terrie Bockin, Rebecca Maurice and Mrs. William Kuether.

Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Drescher of Neillsville. The groom’s mother is Mrs. Arnold Yeger of Menasha.

Valerie Vincent, the bride’s sister of Neenah, was maid of honor. She was joined by Barb Miller, Jean Steidl, Dixie Oldham and Judy Mitte.

Randy Yaeger, the groom’s brother of Appleton, was bestman. He was joined by Dave Yaeger, Joel Grossman, Ken Steffens and Mark Rasmussen. Ushering were Curt Cattanach and Steve Dietz.

Following the service a reception was held at a Neenah Club.

The new Mr. and Mrs. Yaeger will make their home in Menasha. She is a 1978 graduate of the City College of Cosmetology, Eau Claire, and is employed by the Parkview Health Center in Oshkosh. Her husband is presently in the U.S. Army Reserves and is employed by Northeastern Industrial Maintenance Company of Menasha.

Granton FFA Has ‘$400 ‘oat day’ (Benefit - 1984)

Granton FFA members collected over $400 in oats, batteries and cash last week from area farmers. The funds will be used to send two handicapped youth to Camp Wawbeek at Wisconsin Dells.

This year the group took in 88 batteries, 1,500 pounds of oats and over $150 in cash.

The Granton FFA students have been conducting the project for over 10 years. This year they were invited to be part of the Easter Seals telethon in Eau Claire to explain their effort.

Greenwood FFA Banquet (Awards - 1984)

Greenwood High’s Future Famers of America chapter recently held an awards banquet with Jerry Urdahl, WAXX farm reporter, giving a slide presentation on his travels in a number of European countries while on an agricultural tour.

Chapter members receiving the Greenhand degree were Dave Toburen, Todd Seliskar, Gary Schultz, Shelly Patterson, Dave Nielsen, Dave Nicholson, Greg Lucas, Shane Langan, Terry Heck, Daryl Hannan, Dan Denk, Kim Brey and Doug Alexander. Those recognized as Chapter Farmers were Val Gosar, Jeff Heck, Dan Kitzhaber, Duane Podrovitz, Craig Reuter and Paul Susa.

Named as State Farmers were Mike Timmler and Doug Rondorf. The Dekalb award for the outstanding senior was presented to Mike Timmler. Russell Awe was named the outstanding salesman.

Receiving Proficiency awards were Mike Timmler, diversified livestock production; Jim Heck, placement in agricultural production; Jim Brinker and Jeff Heck, dairy production proficiency; Russell Awe, poultry production; Ken Kitzhaber and Jeff Olson, beef production; and Jon Lindner and Matt Lindner, swine production.

Shelly Patterson was named the Star Greenhand and Jim Brinker was named the Star Chapter Farmer.

In FFA speaking Shelly Patterson, earned her award for the Creed; Mike Timmler in prepared speech; and Delmond Horn in extemporaneous speaking. Dairy judging awards were earned by Shelly Patterson, Jim Brinker, Mike Timmler and Lorin Denk.

Receiving officer pins were Steve Nigon, president; Mike Ortner, vice president; Mike Timmler, secretary; Russell Awe, treasurer; Delmond Horn, reporter; and Doug Rondorf, sentinel. Carter Turner is the advisor.

James Lato, president of the FFA Alumni, explained the requirements to receive a scholarship, if planning to study in a related field after high school graduation. Applicants may get further information from the chapter advisor or the FFA Alumni.

NHS FFA Banquet (Honors - 1984)

The annual FFA Parents’ Night and Awards Banquet was held in the Neillsville Middle School pit on April 24. Terry Byrne, who received a leadership pin for his service as chapter president this year and his leadership for all four years, was named Outstanding Senior.

The students receiving Greenhand awards were Karen Luedtke, Dawn Northup, Sherlene Buttke, Kim Selves, Mike Elmhorst, Keith Loberg, Merk Schmidt, Dean Bredlau, Jim Bredlau, Shannon Seay, Randy Meyer, Albert Ott, Todd Shirley, Jay Ehlers, Bill Buettner, Kent Durham, Gary Thoma, Ross Roehl, Randy Fitzmaurice, Keith Clemens and Kristi Schultz. These people had to take an oral test from an officer and have $50 actively invested in a farm project.

Chapter farmer degrees were presented to Craig Boyer and Tim Heck. They have already received the Greenhand and have $100 actively invested.

Master Tester awards were given to those students who completed at least one year of milk testing and got a 70 percent or better on a written examination. Students were Todd Nemitz, Jim Kingsbury, Kendal Durham, Daryl Nash, Tim Heck, Dean Bredlau and Heidi Hediger.

The highest degree which can be handed out by the state association is the State Farmer Degree. Dean Wetzel received this award.

Foundation Awards were given to students for work in these areas: Don Crothers, ag electrification; Todd Nemitz, ag mechanics; Albert Ott, soil and water management; Korry Durham, placement in ag products; Mike Elmhorst, crop production; Steve Friemoth, outdoor recreation; Randy Meyer, beef production; Dean Wetzel, swine production; Shannon Seay, public speaking; Jim Schmitt, chapter scholarship; Terry Byrne, Chapter leadership; Kendal Durham, home improvement; and Tim Heck, dairy production.

For the first year achievements, Randy Meyer received the Star Greenhand award. Mike Elmhorst received the Fritz Buchholz trophy, better known as the outstanding freshman trophy.

Proficiency awards are given to students who are outstanding in one area. Terry Byrne received this award in dairy production.

Bars or letters were presented to those members who went to Madison, River Falls or NCTI. Members were Dean Wetzel, Kevin Anason, Craig Boyer, Walter Piskow, Al Ott, Jim Schmitt, Jim Kingsbury, Todd Nemitz, Terry Byrne, Kendal Durham, Richard Kuechenmeister, Scott Shirley, Steve Friemoth, Dean Bredlau, Mike Elmhorst, Jay Ehlers, Don Crothers, Jeff Kluckhohn, Will Dux, Korry Durham, Tim Heck, Jim Bredlau, Kent Durham, Bill Buettner, Scott Havlicek, Jeff Naedler, Daryl Nash and Mark Mayer.

Principal Henry Lukes was presented with an Honorary Chapter Farmer Degree. This award was given to him because of his service and advice to the agricultural education program. It is the highest award given by the local chapter.

High Salesman trophies were given out for citrus fruit, garden seeds and seed corn sales. Receiving trophies for fruit sales in the fall were Ross Roehl, in first and Jim Kingsbury in second. For the spring sale, first went to Ross Roehl and second to Jim Heck. In calendar sales, Janice Kallian was first. Gary Thoma was first in seed corn. In garden seeds, Philip Schmidt was first and Kent Durham second.
