Helm, Mr. and Mrs. Louis (Golden - 1979)

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Helm had a special weekend recently. While being honored by the community of Granton during its annual Fall Festival, they also marked their 50th wedding anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs. Helm were married on September 8, 1929, by the Rev. Kuker. Several from the original wedding party attended. They include Nora (Ross) Johnson of Fall Creek, Anita (Helm) Guenther of Eau Claire, Alma (Pusheck) Carey of Chicago and Florence (Garbisch) Wolkenhauer of Lyndon Station. Two other members of the wedding party, Daniel Garbisch, a twin brother of the bride of 1929, and Charlotte (Davis) Garbisch are deceased.

Louis and Adelia Helm had four children, all sons. Walter married Bev Spry of Chili, Norman married Elda Broham of Detroit, Mich., Roland married Beverly Meissner of Chili, and Eldon married Mary Lewis of Granton. From those children came fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild, all of whom attended the anniversary event.

The Saturday afternoon program was opened with Caroline Helm playing “Here Comes the Bride”; Sandra Helm wearing Adelia’s wedding dress and slippers; and David Helm dressed as the groom. Other guest s took part in the celebration with a buffet dinner following.

At a Sunday morning service at Zion Lutheran Church, guest speaker was the Rev. Alfred Wolkenhauer, Lyndon Station, who is a brother-in-law of the couple. His sermon was based on “building lives successfully on Christ.” Guest organist, another brother-in-law, was Hugo Ross, Sun Prairie, with Judith (Helm) Eckert, Kalamazoo, Mich., as soloist.

On Sunday noon, family dinner was held in the church’s dining hall. A special program, lead by the Rev. and Mrs. Wolkenhauer, was given, and Caroline Helm and Elaine Seefeldt assisted.
