Svete, Father Gus (? – 16 October 1979)

A former priest at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard, Father Gus Svete, 73, passed away from a heart attack, on October 16, while on a fishing trip to the Hayward area with his brother, Father Andrew Svete. A funeral mass was held at St. Mary’s Seminary, Lamont, on October 20.

The Rev. Svete served Holy Family parish from March 1950 to April 1958.

The deceased was born in Forest City, Penn., and joined the Slovene Franciscan Fathers. He was ordained in 1931. After serving the Willard parish, he was a chaplain in St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Surviving him besides his priest brother are three other brothers in Pennsylvania.

Attending the funeral from the Willard area were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Koschak, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Zorman, J.F. Trunkel and Mary Lesar.
