Mauel, Allen Eugene (19 August 1930 – 19 October 2021)

Allen E. Mauel, 91, of Thorp, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Oakbrook Health & Rehab in Thorp.

Allen Eugene Mauel was born on August 19, 1930, at Victory Memorial Hospital in Stanley, the son of Adolph P. and Catherine P. (Drace) Mauel. He was raised in Thorp and received his education at area schools. After his completing his schooling, Al worked for the City of Thorp before moving to Bongards, MN where he worked for Bongards Creamery. Al returned to Thorp in 1967 and purchased Al's North Star Gas Station, which he operated until retiring in 1983. During his retirement, he took care of his ailing mother and father.

He had many interests, but especially enjoyed studying the stock market, trading stocks and bonds, and reading, especially history and the Wall Street Journal. Al was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, and its Holy Name Society.

He is survived by 2 sisters: Mary (Gerald) Galles of Blaine, MN, and Collette Allen of Dearborn Heights, MI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Al was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 25, 2021, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp, with Fr. Baskaran Sandhiyagu officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church, on Monday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
