Meyer, Wilhelm H. (18 March 1907 – 16 March 1980)

A lifelong Neillsville resident, who was recently known as a grower and seller of Christmas trees, passed away on Sunday, March 16. Dead after a short illness, is Wilhelm H. Meyer, 72, of Rt. 1 Neillsville, He passed away in Neillsville Memorial Hospital.

The deceased was born on March 18, 1907, in Germany to Heinreich and Alma (Meinert) Meyer. After receiving his education in that country, he came to the U.S. in 1924 and farmed in Iowa for several years. During this time that he married Virginia Wischmeyer, in Sioux Falls, S.D., ceremonies.

Meyer moved to Milwaukee, after his Iowa sojourn and worked there for several years, before moving to Medford, where he farmed until October 1944 when he joined the service. In October 1945, he returned to Medford and one year later moved to the Neillsville area, farming in the Town of Levis. In his later years, he operated a Christmas Tree business on his farm.

Surviving him, besides his wife, is one son, David, Lester, Iowa, one daughter, Mary Louise Meyer, Denver, Colorado, and one sister, Erna Christophersen, Germany. Preceded in death by one brother.

Funeral services were to be held today, Thursday, March 20, at 1:30 p.m. from St. John’s Evangelical Church, Neillsville, with the Rev. Norman W. Lindloff officiating. Burial was to be made in the Dells Dam Cemetery. Visitation was scheduled from 4 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and on Thursday morning, until time of services, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville.
