Grottke, Bernard A. (4 August 1908 – 5 June 1980)

Funeral services in Neillsville were held Saturday afternoon, June 7, for Bernard A. Grottke, 71, of Marshfield. Grottke passed suddenly at his Marshfield home on Thursday, June 5. The Rev. Norman W. Lindloff officiated at the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church services with burial made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. The Gesche Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Grottke was born in the Town of Grant on August 4, 1908, to Ernest and Anna (Scharf) Grottke. He received his education in the Neillsville Lutheran School. On October 2, 1933, he married Bertha Meske in Minnesota ceremonies. The Grottke’s farmed in the Town of Grant until 1947 hen they moved to Neillsville, and he worked for Neillsville Milk Products. In 1960, they moved to Marshfield, where he was employed by Weinbrenner Shoe Factory until retiring in 1970. He was a member of St. Joh’s congregation.

Surviving him, besides his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Andrew (Carol) Johnson of Marshfield and Mrs. LaVerne (Jean) Metcalf of Villa Park, Ill.; one son, Roger, Neillsville; one sister, Mrs. Faune Iida) Durni, Hatfield; one brother, Herbert, Hatfield; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
