Turner, Rowene L. (1922? - 19 June 1980)

A Clark County Native and member of the Sunburst youth Homes board of directors, Rowene L. Turner, passed away on Thursday, June 19. She was an Eau Claire resident at the time of her death and had been active in numerous organizations in the community. She passed away in Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire, at the age of 58.

Rowene L. Happe, was born in Clark County. She graduated from UW-Stout in 1943 and then taught schools in Loyal, Edgerton, Black Earth and Eau Claire. During this time, she married Gilbert L. Turner on June 1, 1946, in Chili services.

Mrs. Turner also worked a volunteer coordinator at Luther Hospital for several years and served on the hospital’s board of directors. She was state vice president of the Volunteer Coordinators Association.

In 1973, Mrs. Turner became director of parish education for Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. She also was a member of the Sunburst board; chairman of the ALC Northern Wisconsin District Education Board; the ALC Eau Claire Conference Executive Committee; and served on the board of the Eau Claire Family Services Board and was an honorary member of Beta Sigma Phi.

Surviving her, besides her husband, is a daughter, Susan Latourelle, Richmond, Va.; a son , Thomas, Orlando, Fla.; her mother, Lottie Happe, Chili; and a brother, Ronald Happe, Chili.

Funeral services were held on Saturday morning, June 21, with burial made in the United Methodist Cemetery in Chili.
