NHS Class of 1920 (60 Year - 21 June 1980)

Members of the Neillsville High School Class of 1920 recalled the 60 years that have lapsed since they marched down the aisle on graduation day. The recollections took place last Saturday, June 21, in a reunion held at the Neillsville Country Club.

Of the 29 who graduated, fifteen remain, and eleven were in attendance at the event.

One of the two mail survivors of the class, Donald Irvine, Tomahawk, who instigated the reunion, served as master of ceremonies. He read letters from three of those unable to be present, Mrs. Lois (Longenecker) Orr, Redlands, Calif.; George Free, Hamilton, Mont.; and Mrs. Viola (Welowsky) Osowski, Thorp. Another member of the class told of Mrs. Pearl (Harding) Keene of Calif.

Members of the Class voted to meet again in 1982 for a 62nd reunion.

Attending the reunion were classmates Mrs. Esther (Andreson) Rottjer, Loyal; Mrs. Lorene (Broihier) Hauge, Neillsville; Mrs. Richard (Emilie) Albrecht, Neillsville; Mrs. Marie (Hubing) Halstead, West Union, Ia.; Mrs. Louise (Imig) Markwardt, Wis. Rapids; Donald Irvine, Tomahawk; Mrs. Ellen (Olson) Johnson, Neillsville; Mrs. Margaret (Schiller) Christofferson, Neillsville; Mrs. Gertrude (Ziebell) Gilbertson, Granton; Mrs Sadie (Hohenstein) Kirkstetter, LaSalle, Ill.; and Mrs. Irma (Neverman) Welmer, Weyauwega.

Also attending the event were Richard Albrecht, Neillsville, Henry Markwardt, Wis. Rapids; Mrs. Donald Irvine, Tomahawk, and Mr. Welmer, Weyauwega.

Among those deceased from the class are Vivian Bartlett, Lucille Davis, Clare Davis, Geraldine Farning, Helen Frantz, John Hoesly, Lenore Halverson, Marvel Johnson, Erwin Kurth, Marcellette Kutchera, Charles Moulton, Cecelia O’Reilly, Leon Pickering and Frances Wagner.

Guests at the event were seated at a U-shaped table, decorated with white table cloths and small white vases filled with pansies, forget-me-nots and other pink flowers, all from the garden of classmate Emilie Albrecht.

After introductions, guests joined hands to say the doxology. Following the meal, a brief program was held which included “Thoughts On The Departed” and several verses offered by Ellen Johnson and Emilie Albrecht.
