Navy Ensign Alexander M. Rode, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Rode of Route 2, Withee, Wisconsin, made his first solo flight in a Navy aircraft at Pensacola, Florida.

Soloing is a major step towards become a Naval Aviator.

A 1973 graduate of the University of Illinois, Champaign, he joined the Navy in June 1973.
