Swim, Harley E. Sr. (15 Nov 1904 – 2 Jun 1974)

Harley E. Swim Sr. died instantly at his home Sunday morning, June 2, 1974.

He was born February 20, 1904 in Hebron, Wisconsin. At the age of ten his parents and family moved to Thorp, where he attended Thorp Public School.

On November 15, 1922 he was united in marriage to Stephanie Kmiec.

He was employed by the railroad for a number of years prior to moving on a farm north of Thorp, where he farmed twenty years before retiring. Then he worked part time for the Department of Natural Resources and was self-employed in painting.

To this union were born nine children, Harley Jr. of Stanley, Ellery of California, (Dawn) Mrs. Joseph Waichulis, (Beverly) Mrs. Gerald Mann, Anita, Arvalee, Mrs. Ernst Spaltner, and Linda, all of Milwaukee. A son Harold and daughter Arline preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, seven children, twenty-four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one brother, Elmer, Corvallis, Oregon; and five sisters, Myrtle (Mrs. Andrew Kubera), Thorp, Elda (Mrs. Ralph Bigelow), Stanley, Maude Rogers of Lannon, Isabel ((Mrs. Merlin Hubener) and Florence, Mrs. Walter Restall), both of Waukesha.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. David Fuller at the Stanley United Methodist Church. He was laid to rest in the Thorp East Side Cemetery.
