Mr. and Mrs. Stas Lawcewicz are now living at 402 E. Stanley Street, Thorp after their marriage on the 18th of May 1974 at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, where Father John Puerner officiated in the double ring ceremony before a large group of friends and relatives, before an altar adorned with baskets of white mums.

The Prelude “Wedding Song” was a duet sung by Dan Kotecki and Cheryl Sarafin. David Lawcewicz, brother of the groom, and Jimmy Ciolkosz, cousin of the bride, were mass servers, while another brother, Richard Lawcewicz and Peggy Burzynski, sister of the bride, carried offertory. For the occasion, Al Ciolkosz and choir played and sang the Mass and special hymns.

Ushering church were Mitch Ciolkosz, uncle of the bride, and Ed Kozikowski, friend of the groom.

The bride, the former Jody Burzynski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Burzynski, route 1, Thorp, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Lawcewicz Jr., route 2, Thorp.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride was beautifully attired in a gown of sheer white organza and Chantilly lace. The bodice was highlighted by a high rolled neckline folding into a ribbed V yolk. Chantilly lace flowers embedded with borealis beads flowed over the shoulders bordering the yok into a V effect. The full bishop sleeves were accented by a wide lace cuff. White satin ribbon circled the raised waist. The A-line skirt flowed into a chapel length train with Chantilly lace borders, the split front of the skirt and all the way around the train. Her outfit was completed with a long Chantilly lace edged mantilla style veil.

Miss Judy Burzynski was her twins sister’s maid of honor. She was attired in a gown of blue. The puff sleeves and high neck were trimmed in Schiffli lace. Schiffli lace accented the bodice with matching pull through ribbon, the slightly gather skirt fell to the floor. To complete their look they wore picture hats trimmed in matching ribbon and lace. She carried a colonial bouquet of white carnations and blue baby’s breath, and streamers to match.

The bridesmaid were Miss Gail Burzynski of Tarklo, Missouri, cousin of the bride, Miss Cindy Osowski, cousin of the bride, Miss Phyllis Haas, friend of the bride and groom, Miss. Charlene Hempelman, friend of the bride and groom. All we identically dressed to that of the maid of honor, only in lavender. Billy Joe Hempelman, friend of the bride and groom, acted as flower tirl. She was identically dressed as the bridesmaid, only in blue, and she carried a basket of white carnations with blue streamers.

The bride’s gifts to her attendants were birthstone rings, and to the flower girl and miniature bride, bluebird bracelets.

Best man was Maurice Schirmacher, Eau Claire, brother-in-law of the groom. Groomsmen were Dan Kotecki, friend of the bride and groom, Robert Burzynski, brother of the bride, Bob Lawcewicz, brother of the groom, and Michael Ciolkosz, cousin of the bride, was ring bearers. They all wore white dinner jacket suits with blue and orchid shirts respectively.

The bride place a bouquet of red roses on the Blessed Virgin Altar, while Joanne Moskiewicz sang the “Ave Maria”, accompanied by Al Ciolkosz, also during the offertory Joanne sang “We’ve Just Begun, with Dan Kotecki accompanying her. One of the solemn parts of the wedding mass was the candle lighting ceremony pledging their unity in marriage, after which they each presented their parents with a single red rose.

The bride and groom were honored at a reception held at the Quonset Hall, attended by over 800 guests, throughout the afternoon and evening. Jerry Wiles of Watertown, South Dakota and band provided the dance music. An added feature was the Polish Folk Dancer of Thorp (of which Jody and Stas are members) danced their famous “Wedding Waltz” and “Krakowiak”.

Guests for the wedding were from Chicago, Bensenville, Glen Elly, Prairie View, Roselle, Downers Grove, Westmont, Tarkio, Missouri, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Sheboygan, Eau Claire, Chippewa, Fountain City, Colby, Cadott, Stanley, Boyd, Bloomer, Withee, Owen, Rochester Minnesota, Palatine, Illinois and Thorp.
