Stelter, Oscar H. (7 September 1906 – 9 July 1980) With Flag

A man who was an area carpenter for many years, Oscar H. Stelter, passed away in Wood Veterans’ Medical Center, Milwaukee, on Wednesday, July 9. Stelter, 73, had been a resident of the Wood Veteran’s Home for the past ten years.

Born on September 7, 1906, in Neillsville to Ferdinand and Ottille (Fritz) Stelter, the deceased received his education in Neillsville. He later worked in Milwaukee as a carpenter and then moved back to Neillsville where he continued carpentering for many years.

Stelter was a world War II Veteran, joining in March of 1942 and was discharged in October of 1945. He saw action in Europe.

Surviving him are four sisters, Rosaly Stelter, Mrs. Emma Doss, Mrs. Leonard (Alvina) Hinkley and Mrs. Herman (Bertha) Gloff, all of Milwaukee; and one brother, Frederick, Neillsville. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held on Saturday early afternoon, July 12, from the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville with burial made in the city cemetery. The Rev. Thomas D. Lindloff officiated. Special music, ‘Abide With Me” and “The 23rd Psalm” were offered by Paul Tess and Linda Krehmeyer.

Serving as pallbearers were Orville Jake, Leonard Drescher, Gerald Dankemeyer, Darrel Raine, Herbert Grottke and Herman Carl.

Attending from out of town were Frederick Stelter, Rosaly Stelter and Mr./Mrs. Leonard Hinkley, of Milwaukee; Mr./Mrs. Lynn Millsaps, Elmhurst, Ill.; Laverne, James and Eugene Stelter, of Janesville; Robert Stelter, Beloit; Alton Stelter, Orfordville; Mr./Mrs. William Nevin and Mr./Mrs. Neal Notteslad, of Cashton; William Stelter and Mary Howley, both of La Crosse; Mr./Mrs. Stanley Blaskowski & family, Stratford; Mrs. David Herron & family, Marshfield and Julie Kren, Watertown.
