Mr. and Mrs. Werner J. Schaefer of Route 1, Abbotsford, announce the engagement of their daughter, Joette, to Roger Calmes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Calmes, Abbotsford.

Miss Schaefer is a 1971 graduate of Colby High School and attended the University of Wisconsin, Marshfield Wood County Campus for two years. Her fiancé is a 1967 graduate of Athens High School and is employed at Bilt-Rite at Edgar.

An October wedding is being planned by the couple.

St. Thomas Catholic Church, Milan, was the setting Saturday, October 13, 1973, for the 1:30 wedding of Miss Joette Schaefer and Roger Calmes.

The Rev. Len Stashek officiated for the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Werner J. Schaefer, Route 1, Abbotsford, and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Calmes, Abbotsford.

Music for the guitar mass was provided by Jeanne, Gayle and Alan Burger, Athens, cousins of the bride, and Craig Breitsprecher of Wausau.

Miss Mavis Burger of Athens, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor, and Mrs. Richard Verschay, La Crosse, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid. Flower girls were Miss Kim Schaefer, sister of the bride, and Miss Tammi Calmes, Elcho, niece of the bridegroom.

Jerry Gesicki, Athens, was best man, and John Drexler, Stratford, was groomsman. Ushers were Jeff Schaefer and Mark Calmes, brothers of the bride and groom.

The bride wore her mother’s wedding gown of ivory satin with a beaded yoke, full skirt and long train. Her shoulder length veil was attached to an ivory satin bow headpiece and she carried a bouquet of white daisies.

The bridesmaids wore yellow and white print empire gowns with yellow ribbon belts and yellow hair ribbons. They carried colonial bouquets of yellow daisies. The flower girls wore beige print empire gowns with beige ribbon belts and beige hair ribbons. They carried small colonial bouquets of yellow daisies.

The reception, dinner and dance were held at Trianon Ballroom.

The bride graduated from Colby High School in 1971 and attended the UW-Marshfield-Wood County Center for two years. The bridegroom graduated from Athens High School in 1967, attended UW-Marathon County Center for two years, and is now employed at Hanz Trucking, Inc., Schofield.

They will live in Abbotsford.
