Jim Umhoefer, son of Mrs. Katherine Umhoefer, Colby, is among 19 University of Wisconsin, La Crosse students attending the UW system center in Copenhagen, Denmark, this school year.

Umhoefer is a junior majoring in psychology.

Now in its third years, the Copenhagen program draws students and faculty from UW System campuses in La Crosse, Whitewater, Superior, Platteville, and River Falls.

One of the chief aims of the program is to provide the opportunity for study and research in Europe at a cost within reach for students who could not otherwise afford such an experience. Tuition and student fees are the same as those on the home campuses.

With the 800-year-old city of Copenhagen as their base, students have easy and inexpensive access to all European countries for comparative studies and research, as well as recreation and travel.

The curriculum includes courses in history, geography, art, psychology, literature, political science, sociology, Danish language, economics, education, and Scandinavian culture. The arts and crafts of Scandinavia are also studied.

While students spend the entire academic years abroad, faculty assignments are for one semester. Dr. William Shepherd, professor of political science, is representing UW-La Crosse this semester. Dr. Leslie Crocker, assistant professor of art, has been appointed to the Copenhagen center faculty for second semester.
