Stettler, Victor J. (3 Jun 1894 – 29 Oct 1973)

Victor John Stettler, 79, of Colby, died Monday morning at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Stettler entered the hospital Sunday morning. He had been in ill health the past six months.

Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, November 1, at the United Church of Christ in Colby at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Kenneth Dix will officiate. Interment will be in the Colby Memorial Cemetery. The body will lie in state at Lulloff Funeral Home until time of service.

Mr. Stettler was born June 3, 1894, at Eagle Valley, Wisconsin. He received his education there. On November 27, 1919, he was married to the former Marie Hunger at Winona, Minnesota. She died in 1954.

As a young man he farmed for eight years in North Dakota. After his marriage he farmed in the town of Hull, Marathon County, until 1952, when he moved to Colby. After moving to town, he was employed at Colby Cheese Box Company, and at the Wiersig & Dins Feed Company. He was a member of the United Church of Christ.

Survivors include three children, Loretta (Mrs. George Weller) of Colby, John Stettler, Colby, and Lawrence Stettler, Abbotsford; seven grandchildren; a sister, Alice Kingsley of Ekalaka, Montana, and three brothers, Oswald, Winona, Minnesota, Fred Jr., Colby, and Oliver of Marshfield.

He was also preceded in death by three children, who died in infancy, and a brother.

Services were held November 1, 1973 at the First United Church of Christ in Colby for Victor Stettler. Rev. Kenneth Dix officiated, and interment was in the Colby Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Adam Fitzel, Melvin Duvall, Art Kumbier, Hoard Barr, Walter Gash, and Home Smith.

Mrs. Allen Duvall sang “Nearer My God to These” and “Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling.” Mrs. Dennis Telschow was the organist.
