Navy Engineman Third Class Pal C. Pribbernow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben E. Pribbernow of Route 1, Withee, Wisconsin, is participating in the major allied exercise “Rimpac ‘78.”

He is serving as a crew member aboard the destroyer USS Hewitt, homeported in San Diego.

Conducted in the mid-Pacific Ocean area adjacent to Hawaii, “Rimpac ’78” involves approximately 22,000 men, 42 ships, and 225 aircraft from the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. This marks the sixth annual joint maneuvers conducted by naval forces from “rim of the Pacific” nations.

“Rimpac ’78” tests and evaluates the combat readiness of participating units. Areas covered include anti-submarine warfare, air defense and carrier operations, at sea rearming and replenishment, plus missile firings at Pacific Missile Range Facility, Barking Sands, Hawaii.

Overall commandeer for “Rimpac ‘78” is Vice Admiral Samuel L. Gravely Jr., USN, commander of the U.S. Third Fleet.

Pribbernow joined the Navy in May 1975.
