Schmidt, Ellen Kay (20 Jun 1975)

In a 7:30 p.m. candlelight ceremony on Friday, June 20, 1975, Ellen Kay Schmidt and Wesley S. Whipple repeated their wedding vows. Rev. Kenneth A. Dix performed the ceremony at the First United Church of Christ, Colby, for the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred C. Schmidt, Milan, and Mr. and Mrs. Warren S. Whipple, Route 2, Hughesville, Pennsylvania.

“The Wedding Prayer,” ”The Lord’s Prayer,” and “Song of Hosanna,” were sung by Mrs. Jana Lind, with organist Edna Wells playing the “Bridal March.” Both are friends of the bride.

For her wedding the bride chose a princess styled gown of sata a peau over white crepe with matching lace appliques on the skirt. The gown was fashioned with a high neckline and long sleeves of sata a peau with wide cuffs. Her long train was of sata a peau and crepe and she wore a fingertip veil.

She carried a cascade of orchids, carnations and stephanotis with ivy.

Suzanne Kelsey, Abbotsford, attended her friend as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Pamela Whipple, Hughesville, Pennsylvania, sister of the bridegroom and Cindy Finn, Superior, a friend of the bride.

The bride’s attendants wore floor length gowns of pink satin with printed voile design fashioned with a high neckline and short flared sleeves with lace trim. Each wore matching hats and carried baskets of pink daisies and ivy.

Wayne Whipple attended his brother as best man. Groomsmen were Edwin and James Schmidt, brothers of the bride. Ushers were Michael Hansen, Abbotsford, a friend of the bride, and Stan Karlsson, Keewatin, Canada, a friend of the bridegroom.

Following the wedding, a reception and dinner for 135 guests were held at the Colby Hotel.

The bride is a 1971 graduate of Abbotsford High School and a 1973 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Superior, with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. Her husband graduated in 1971 from Hughesville High School, and in 1973 from UW-Superior with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education. The bride was affiliated with Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and the bridegroom was a member of the FEX Fraternity.

The new Mr. and Mrs. Whipple will make their home at Route 2, Hughesville, Pennsylvania 17737.

Out of town guests attended the wedding from Ashland, Milwaukee, Superior, Sun Prairie, Janesville, Keewatin, Canada, Rockford, Illinois and Hughesville, Pennsylvania.
