The Class of 1949 of the Colby High School held its 25-year reunion on Saturday,
July 27, 1974. The cocktail hour starting at 6:30 p.m., with dinner following
was held at the Hotel Colby.
The table were decorated with yellow roses (the class flower) and displayed at
the head table were a large silver 25 and a decorated cake. Allen Dins served as
master of ceremonies. After the banquet a dance to the music of the Incidentals
was held at the VFW Club.
Prizes were awarded to Elmer Jewett, coming from the longest distance – 2400
miles; most recently married – Marvin Thede; lowest neckline – Gloriette Ganzy;
youngest child – Milton Grieser; most gray hair – Junior Podevels; girl who
changed the least – Maxine Haas, man with the longest hair – Allen Dins.
Pictures were shown and letters read from the following classmates unable to
attend: Mrs. Joseph Werlinger (Doraine Diedrich), Milwaukee; Cmd. Don Jean
Primeau, New York, N.Y.; Mrs. Kenneth Blazel, Betty Rex, Medford, Norman Sill,
Racine, Ronald Scheel, Milwaukee, Mrs. Frank Martin (Marcella Hanson), Virginia
Beach, Virginia; and George Vrana, Rochelle, Illinois.
A moment of silence was held in memory of Mercedes (Kaiser) Barr.
Jean Packard, Gloriette Ganz, Alvera Gottschalk and Barbara Gumz will be in
charge of the next reunion to be held in five years.
