The 2022 Marg family reunion took place at the Marg Homestead in Neillsville.

“A delightful potluck lunch included a historic family recipe, poppy seed torte by Caroline Helm, and a new favorite, popcorn salad, by Shirley Holverson. Photos were shared and identified amid gossip and updates,” family member Shirley Anderson wrote in a press release about the June 25 reunion.

Deb and Jeff Makovski were the “early bird” arrivals and received the prize of gummy worms. Roger Helm and Marc Strangfeld vied for a soft baby brush and comb set for the one with the least hair. Holverson received a bottle of sparkling cider for having had the longest mar4riage of all present.

The newest baby in Caroline Helm’s family got a brand new pacifier. Shirley Anderson’s daughter, Kristine Anderson, came the farthest (from Chicago) and was gifted with hemorrhoid cream. Brad Marg, the jokester, was awarded a box of Cracker jacks for claiming he came the farthest, from Virginia. (Virginia Marg, that is!) Nathan Marg, as the youngest person present, got an Etch-a-Sketch toy. Raffle prizes were also distributed so everyone went home with a jar of candies, bottle of maple syrup or pink flamingo knick-knack.

A highlight of the day was a note sent by 93-year-old LaVern Marg, who was unable to attend “due to that I can’t afford gas and my horse and buggy broke down and I can’t find anyone that wants to fix it!... I hope you all have a wonderful day and God’s blessings to all of you,” she wrote.

For six generations the Marg family has gathered for reunions on the home farm, and they look forward to many more gatherings together.
