The Clark County Press has welcomed Edward DuBois as its new reporter. DuBois will cover meetings, sports, community events and other local happenings.
The Press interviewed DuBois for readers to learn a little more about him.
Q: What writing experience do you have?
A: I’ve written a novel, several short stories, opinion blogs and scripts for indie YouTube investigative pieces. My novel is called “The Savior Libra: Part One of the Apocalypse Chronicles,” and is available on Amazon and basically any other site you can buy e-books.
Q: Why did you decide to apply for the reporter position?
A: I applied because I wanted to immerse myself in my community and bring attention to the small things that can sometimes get neglected in the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life, when only the most scandalous of news makes it to the surface, it seems. It’d been my dream for years to join the journalism community, and I’m honored I was chosen.
Q: What are you most looking forward to as reporter?
A: I’m most looking forward to seeing new things about my community—the festivals, the venues, those sorts of things. And, of course, telling everyone about them. Because while I am a hermit, I do get a little restless once in a while when some wanderlust hits me—usually when I see something and think, “Oh, what’s life over there like?”
Q: Tell us a little about yourself.
A: I come from a small family down in the Beloit-Janesville area, which was where I first developed an interest in journalism as a teenager. I even interviewed the editor of Beloit’s main paper as a high school assignment.
I enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps before I was out of high school, hoping to use my benefits to go to college for creative writing and journalism, and submit articles to Combat Camera about the front lines during my time deployed to areas like Afghanistan and Jordan. None of that happened, for many reasons. However, I kept my favorite hobbies—writing and role-playing video games—and put one of those to use, completing a novel while planning a series to follow it.
Beyond that, the most I want people to know about me is that I aim to do my best, and I hope I don’t let my community and my editor down.
