Baumgartner, Mr./Mrs. Walter (Gold – Oct 1974)

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Baumgartner celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on October 5, 1974 with a noon dinner at the First United Church of Christ in Colby for fifty guess, which included their five children, in-laws, (children), 18 grandchildren and attendants, Mr. Baumgartner’s brothers and wives, John Baumgartner, Waukon, Iowa, Harry, Marshfield, and William, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Baumgartner’s sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Strade, Abbotsford.

They all had yellow corsages with gold leaves, and the boutonnieres were yellow carnations with gold leaves. An open house was held at the VFW Clubhouse from 2 to 4 p.m.

Walter was born at Humbird, January 4, 1903 to Mr. and Mrs. John Baumgartner. He obtained his education at Humbird.

Mrs. Baumgartner, the former Ella Neuhaus, was born at Newton, Wisconsin on January 19, 1906 to Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Neuhaus. She received her education in Colby. They are members of the First United Church of Christ. They were married on October 8, 1924 at Stratford, with the Reverend Calvin Grassuesch officiating. The attendants were Harry Baumgartner, brother of Walter Baumgartner, and Anna (Fakes) Hedding, Fond du Lac., friend of Mrs. Baumgartner.

Five children blessed this marriage. They are Donald, Cook, Minnesota, Vernon, Colby, Lucille (Mrs. Ronald Nelson), De Kalb, Illinois, Harold Cook, Minnesota, and James, Colby.

They farmed in the township of Colby until retirement in 1968. They have 18 grandchildren, five granddaughters and thirteen grandsons.

Guests came from Dorchester, Abbotsford, Unity, Fond du Lac, Milwaukee, Neillsville, Waukon, Iowa, Humbird, Rice Lake, Marshfield, Curtiss, Spencer, Eau Claire, Plymouth, Oshkosh, Granton, Franklin and Colby, and the surrounding area.

They received many gifts and cards.
