Kirby, Maude M. (17 November 1902 – 1 April 1982)

Maude M. Kirby, 79, passed away on Thursday, April 1, in a Weslaco, Tex., nursing home. Mrs. Kirby, a longtime Humbird resident, had become ill while visiting at the home of her daughter, Marian Maffett, in Donna, Tex.

The deceased was born in Hopkinton, Iowa, on November 17, 1902. She spent her childhood in northern Minnesota. On December 30, 1918, she married Archie Kirby, and their early married years were spent in Minnesota. In 1935, they moved to the Town of Mentor where they farmed for 38 years. In 1953, they moved into Humbird. She was a member of the Eastern Star and St. John’s Guild.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Everett (Florence) Senske of St. Paul, Mrs. Bud (Margaret) Walker of Fairchild and Mrs. Richard (Mary) Maffett of Donna, Tex.; three sons, Patrick of Spanaway, Wash., Clifford of St. Cloud, Minn., and Keith of Clarksville, Tenn.; and a sister, Mrs. Howard (Ruth) Flanagan, Sebeka, Minn. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Kirby preceded her in death in 1976.

Eastern Star services were held on Monday evening, April 5, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta. Funeral services were conducted at St. John’s Church in Humbird on Tuesday afternoon, April 6, with burial in the Town of Mentor Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were six grandsons; Jim, Jeff and Joe Senske and Archie, Bruce and Jerry Walker.
