Tennis, Bernard (1914? – 11 Jan 1975)

Bernard Tennis, 60, Colby, died at home on Wednesday evening, January 8, 1975 of a lingering illness. Services were held on Saturday, January 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby, with Rev. Francis Rushman officiating. He was buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Mr. Tennis received his education in Unity schools and married the former Mary Umhoefer on August 26, 1950 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. After his marriage he farmed all his life on the home farm, until he retired in August of 1971. He also served several times on Clark County Conservation committees, and in 1959 was named Clark County Conservation farmer of the year.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Catholic Foresters and Holy Name Society.

Mr. Tennis is survived by his wife, four sons, Anthony, Minneapolis, Minn., Bernard, Madison, Gerard, Marshfield, and Michael, at home.

Other survivors include a brother, Sylvester, Kimberly.

He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
