Hessel, Bertha (12 Mar 1890 – 7 May 1975)

Services were held for Bertha C. Hessel, 85, Abbotsford, on Friday, May 9, 1975 at 2 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Abbotsford.

Mrs. Hessel died on Wednesday, May 7 at Continental Manor, Abbotsford. She was buried in Abbotsford Cemetery. Rev. Kenneth Loehrke officiated at the service.

Born on March 12, 1890, the former Bertha Weichel married Paul Hessel on May 17, 1915 at Granton. She attended Neillsville and Granton area schools.

She worked as a sales clerk in Eau Claire, Des Moines, Iowa, and also worked in the Abbotsford area for many years. After their marriage, they farmed in the Greenwood area for nine years.

Mrs. Hessel was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Abbotsford, and a member of the church guild.

She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. (Dorothy) Lawrence Mazza, Abbotsford, Mrs. Robert (Evelyn) Boss, Curtiss; a son, Howard, Janesville; two half-brothers, Eugene and Oswald Weichel, Green Lake; two half-sisters, Marie Manthe, Grand Haven, Michigan, Mrs. Lauer Beil, Chili; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters.
