Burr, Mr. and Mrs. Ray (Golden – 12 July 1982)

With a late afternoon mass on Saturday, July 10, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Burr, 209 West 17th St., Neillsville, began the celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary. The Rev. Joseph Henseler of St. Mary’s parish officiated with special music offered by Ronald Resong and Harold McKinney.

Carol, Julie and Gregory Burr, all grandchildren of the honored couple, carried the offertory, Christine Burr gave the reading and other grandsons, ushered.

At 6:00 p.m., a family dinner was held at the Wildcat Inn. The candled tables were decorated with center pieces of fresh flowers, including gold roses, carnations and mums.

Later that evening, an open house was held at the Neillsville American Legion Hall, which was hosted by children of the couple.

The original attendants were present for the celebration. They included Mrs. Lester Wickershiem of Youngstown, Arizona, a sister of Mrs. Burr; Mrs. Arthur Eldridge of Green Bay, a friend of Mrs. Burr; LeRoy Burr, brother of Ray; and Edwin Freund, a brother of Mrs. Burr.

For the party, Mrs. Burr wore a peach-colored dress with lace jacket. Her husband was attired in a flue suit. Both sported corsages in gold.

The couple was married on July 12, 1932, in Corpus Christi Catholic Church at Bakerville by the Rev. Joseph Wellitzer.

Mathilda is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Freund and was born in McIntive, Iowa. She worked as a cook and hot lunch manager of St. Mary’ Parochial School in Neillsville for 21 years. She enjoys flower and vegetable gardening and needle work.

Ray was born in Gutenberg, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Burr, Sr. Ray retired in 1971 and had worked for Noll Hardware in Marshfield prior to moving to Neillsville in 1940. Here he was employed by Neillsville Milk Products and Nefco Filter. He also served as alderman for two years and on the police and fire commission for twelve years. He enjoys fishing and hunting.

Their children are Mrs. Wayne (Ruth) Kronberger of Neillsville, Kenneth of Marshfield, Mrs. Don (Dolores) Dalke of Beaver Dam and Mrs. Robert (Donna) Yakesh of Bloomer. They also have 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. (One son, Donald, is deceased.)

Attending the festivities were friends and relatives from the Wisconsin communities of Neillsville, Waukesha, Beaver Dam, Marshfield, Bloomer, Thorp, Chili and Hewett. Others came from Rockford, Illinois; Austin, LeRoy and Richfield, Minnesota; and Osage, Riceville, Waterloo, Stacyville, Vienna and Charles City, Iowa.
