Bill Clifford defended his last year’s crown when St. Mary’s Catholic School, Colby, held its school championship Badger Spelling Bee.

Jane Seidel placed as the alternate.

Those two contestants represented St. Mary’s at the sectional spelling bee held at Greenwood.

Clifford place fifth at the sectional held on April 27, 1976.

The eight contestants from grades 5 through 8 chose to compete were Deanna Webb and Mary Reinhart, grade 5, Jane Seidel and Laura Apfelbeck, grade 6, Donna Hedler and Kris Schilling, grade 7, and Bill Clifford and Tim Reinhart, grade 8.
