COLBY -- Coach Tom Langham in his 15th year as a coach, has five returning lettermen from the Hornet quintet that finished 11-1 in league play and 15-6 overall. Missed from the team will be Mike Rahm, the 13th highest scorer in the area a year ago with 371 points. Also added to the team will be a transfer from Rib Lake, Dan Casey.

The five returning lettermen are John Gunderson, Brian Johnson, Ron Rachu, Jon Lynn and Kirk Baumgartner. Completing the varsity roster are Steve Subera, Gary Gunderson, Don Beyer, Mark Underwood, Rob Brown, leroy Underwood and Jeff Rachu.

Langham had this to say about his top six players:

John Gunderson - started last year, leads by example, great competitor, only a fair shooter but is an excellent passer. Finished 33rd in Century Club last year with 266 points.

Ron Rachu - played enough last year to letter, fair rebounder and has a good inside game.

Jon Lynn - good passer and aggressive defensive player and rebounder...outside shooting is improving.

Brian Johnson - aggressive rebounder, plays hard at all times, good outside marksman.

Kirk Baumgartner - showed great promise last year when he played last few games on varsity as a freshman...should be able to score a lot more this year as a sophomore. One of only three 6-footers on the varsity squad.

Gary Gunderson - good shooter and pretty good passer, but need to improve his defense.

Steve Subera - like Gunderson, a good shooter and fair ball-handler, but needs to improve his defense and rebounding.

COLBY - Last year when they failed to win a game the Hornet's were the lowest scoring team in the area, but the 11th on defense. Last year's record 0-19 record should be improved upon," says eighth year coach Paul Johnson.

The six returning lettermen are Karen Eggebrecht, Karen Gaetz, Pam Halopka, Karen Olund, Diane Schaefer and Julie Vrana.

Rounding the squad are Tina Sonnemann, Terri Schaefer, Linda From and Doreen Brandt.

Johnson had these in-a-nutshell comments about his veterans:

Diane Schaefer- good rebounder and floor leader.

Karen Olund - best guard on the squad, good ball-handler.

Julie Vrana - fine defensive player who should be a factor on the boards.

Karen Gaetz - good rebounder.

Karen Eggebrecht - one of our quickest players...good driver...left-handed, which can be an asset.

Pam Halopka - good shooter, strong passing game...good-ball handler.
