The Colby Fire Department was called out at approximately 7:30 p.m. Monday night when a barn on the Leonard Riehle farm, located at Route 1, Colby, was burning. Four cows and five calves were destroyed in the fire. According to Fire Chief Ray Awe, cause of the fire is unknown, but believed to have stated in the feed room. Awe said the bulk tanks and milk house were saved, but much damage was done to the rest of the barn.
