Twins Caleb and Abby Schoessow of Granton
recently hosted a blood drive with Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin to help
combat the national blood crisis, and by all accounts it was a great success.
The Schoessows held their Sweet 16 at Granton’s Zion Lutheran Church (Missouri
Synod) on March 28 in
honor of their 16th birthday. In their words, “There is no better birthday gift
than saving someone’s life.”
One unit of blood can save up to three lives. The
twins had a goal of collecting 32 units of blook, which could help save almost
100 lives. Due to their recruitment efforts from friends, family and the
community, almost 60 people came to donate blood, including 32 first-time
donors. The twins surpassed their goal by 23 units and were able to bank 55
units of blood. The 55 units included 41 whole blood donations (123 blood
products) and seven dual red donations (14 cell products), for a total 137 blood
products to be used to provide lifesaving care to patients in central Wisconsin.
Caleb and Abby were appreciative to everyone who
showed up to help save
lives in their community.
“Today was truly overwhelming, in a good way,
because we had so many people who came out to
donate blood,” said Abby.
“Just think about all the families that can be
positively affected because they came out and rolled up their sleeves to help
out someone else. And it was easier to donate than I thought,” Caleb said.
