I found the photo in an old house in Cold, Lake Alberta, Canada.  It seemed like a shame to leave it the house was being torn down. The family had taken everything they wanted. The last name of the man that lived there was Hillaby( not even sure of the spelling). I kept it for 12 years and now I'm getting rid of things I'm glad I found your site it's very hard to throw away someones history.  Brenda Baynes

This photo was obviously owned by Lynn D. Jaseph.

Is it a possibility that both of the photos above are the old Braun Settlement School?

Comments

I just reread the "Braun Settlement Timeline" that I put together some time ago as I remembered the following: "May 10, 1928 bids were requested to raise the school house and put a basement under so can put a furnace and wood in...."

photo 1 shows the students sitting and standing on steps with a cement slab foundation (no basement)

photo 2 shows the students all standing, the back row on what appears to be a platform for raising the building, and the front row on wood planking. Note the space under the platform supporting the building. (basement being dug?)

photo 3 can't see the building structure so not much use

There is another Braun Settlement school photo taken on the side of the building for the 1934-35 class that clearly shows the new basement.

To bad some of the students aren't identified--that would go a long way in positively saying whether or not the Jaspeh photo is of the Braun Settlement school. Sharon Short
