The Community of Pelsdorf

Loyal, Clark Co., Wisconsin

1920 Map of the Pelsdorf Community

Loyal Township, Clark Co., WI

Pelsdorf was a farming neighborhood south and a bit east of Loyal, Wisconsin.  The community was centered around a Cheese Factory, St. Balthasar's Catholic Church and the "Mack" one room School where Gwen (Fensome) Piggott taught for a number of years.  Irma (Schaeffner) Hollister grew up nearby and says, "The community was really not even a wide spot in the road.  It was an undefined area known by the name Pelsdorf ."  Her son, Carl, suggests the vicinity may have reminded some of the earliest settlers of another Pelsdorf in their old country and it called that in its memory.  It was never officially incorporated by that name and today the only trace of the community is Pelsdorf Ave. which would have been the main road running through it.

There was a Homemakers Club in Pelsdorf and Dorothy Louise Perrin was one of the members.

Businesses

The Leo Hutter Factory was located in during the depression.  Please contact us if you know what was manufactured there.

The Pelsdorf Cheese Factory was later known as Schlinsog’s and subsequently, "Catlin Corner’s Cheese Factory."

In 1946, Harry Schlinsog purchased the cheese factory in Pelsdorf, located 3 miles south east of Loyal, which he renamed Schlinsog Dairy. It was operated by the family until 1992 when the business was sold to Mullins of Mosinee and the factory closed. Below is a picture of the Schlinsog Dairy of Loyal, Wisconsin.
