Neillsville Library News

There has been a lot happening and a lot that will happen at the Neillsville Public Library.

With funding through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Neillsville Area Public Library Foundation the library was able to purchase three new computers.  These computers replaced two existing card catalog/search stations, and the computer in the study room that can be used for word processing.

The library also purchased a Kindle from Amazon and a Nook from Barnes and Noble that patrons may check out.  However, there are certain requirements in order for these e-Readers to be checked out.  Stop to find out what they are.

The Friends of the Library will be sponsoring its Annual Book and Bake Sale.  This year the sale will be held Thursday and Friday, Sept. 15 and 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday.  Prices are as follows: Children’s books, 10˘; paperbacks 10˘; hard covers 25˘; videos, DVDs, cassettes and CDs 25˘.  Fill a bag for $2.50.  Call the library if you wish to donate items for the bake sale or book sale or to sign up to work at the event.

The library is joining VCAT.  VCAT is the consortium most of the libraries in Clark County and the Wisconsin Valley Library Service (WVLS) belong to.  This change will take place about the middle of October.

When the library joins VCAT, all of its patrons will get new library cards and numbers.  These cards can be used at almost any library in Clark, Forest, Lincoln, Langlade, Marathon, Oneida and Taylor Counties.  Books checked out from these other libraries can be returned to the Neillsville library.

Patrons will also have access to their library account from any computer. They will be able to see what other libraries have available.

There will be a period of about two weeks beginning Oct. 1, when the library will not be checking out items. Library staff asks items be returned by Sept. 30.  The fewer items checked out when the conversion is made, the easier it will be. Some books will be available to read during this time.

This conversion is a good change and will help library patrons.

Those with questions can contact Jo Ann Gustavson or Kathy Wegner at the library at 715-743-2558
