Sun and wind Saturday, Oct. 2, brought a large crowd to The Highground for its annual Chili Cook-Off and sixth-annual Car Show.

A total of 16 participants brought their best chili to be judged and enjoyed by guests in the park.  Lynn Hodnett of Rice Lake took home the prize for best presentation.

Judges chose the following chili for the top three prizes: Larry Hodnett of Chippewa Falls, first place; Rachel McBride of Neillsville, second place; Mary Schlagenhaft of Wisconsin Rapids, third place.

Popular votes went to Wanda Jennings, first place; Lynn Hodnett of Rice Lake, second place; and Dan Campbell of Loyal, third place.  The Highground looks forward to having all participants back in 2011.

Guests also enjoyed walking through the display of 45 antique cars in the park for the sixth annual Car Show. A 2010 Highground dash plaque was presented to each entry.   Mark Gosh of Pittsville took home the trophy for his 1959 Chrysler Imperial.

Morning and afternoon Legacy Stone ceremonies were also held at The Highground; it was a grand day.

Volunteers and contributors are the heart of The Highground.
