Jordan Schimke, of Lublin, and Juanita McCarter of Thorp, were recently recognized at the Young Women of Achievement Banquet held at The Plaza in Eau Claire on June 22, 2007 for earning their Bronze award, the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can earn.

Jordan, who began as a Brownie, has been involved in Girl Scouts for six years.  For her project, Jordan spent many hours helping the elderly residents in both the Lublin and Thorp areas by doing the yard work they are unable to do themselves.  She also helped with the set up of a church bazaar and served at the community dinner after Mass that day.  She earned her Leadership Award by running some of the Girl Scout meetings and being the secretary as well, which means she was responsible for getting the monthly newsletter out so everyone was aware of upcoming events. She continues to help those that are in need in her community on an ongoing basis.

Juanita began in Girl Scouts as a Daisy.  She worked with her fellow troop members to collect yarn from community members and donated it to the Stanley prison.  The prisoners used yarn to make hats, mittens, blankets, and stuffed animals.  The items were then given back to the girls to hand out at the food pantry to those in need.

Girl Scouting cultivates values, social conscience and self-esteem in girls while teaching them the critical life skills to succeed as adults.  In Girl Scouting, girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together.

The Girl Scouts of Indian Waters Council is a United Way of Greater Eau Claire, United Way of Dunn County, and a United Way of Chippewa County agency.
