Picture: Owner Michael Jacque describes steps in making maple syrup as students are gathered near the evaporator machine.  Fourth graders from Thorp Catholic School learned about the process of making syrup at Jacque’s Sugar Bush, located about six miles south of Thorp on Cty M at N9753 Popple River Road.  Mrs. Glidden’s class took a field trip on Tuesday, April 8th to see a maple syrup operation first-hand.  Jacque showed students a variety of equipment including the custom designed evaporator machine.  His son, Mitchell, (also a 4th grader) showed his classmates how to tap a tree.  They went for a wagon ride and saw how the tubing vacuum system works to collect sap.  To sweeten their visit, the class was also treated to some maple syrup and ice cream. Those interested in arranging a field trip or to purchase maple syrup products, contact Michael or Deb Jacque at 669-3059.
