On Tuesday, November 10, a large group of local Marine Veterans gathered at S & K Enterprises to celebrate the Marine Corps’ 234th birthday.  The “unofficial” celebration began with a few local Marines getting together for a dinner to reminisce and talk about the time that they served.

Ever since that first dinner, the event has grown as more Marine community members have been found.  Former Marine and Vietnam Veteran Cliff Hollister mentioned his favorite quote about the Marines which came from Eleanor Roosevelt: “The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen.  Thank God for the United States!”  The City of Thorp thanks all those that have served and wishes all Marines a happy birthday.
