100 Years Ago (1907)

Jacob J. Kostrzewa, formerly of this place, is a member of the U. S. Marine Corps, USS Maryland, now at Honolulu, Hawaii.

The Thorp Manufacturing Cos factory will finish its cut of bolts tomorrow after a very successful year’s work.

The dedication of the new parochial school erected by St. Bernard’s congregation took place on Sunday last, the ceremonies being conducted by Bishop Schwebach of La Crosse, assisted by Rev. Wm. Eggers of Rubicon, who addressed the congregation in the German language, and Rev. G. Meyer of St. Francis, in English.

75 Years Ago (1932)

The fire siren awoke, the community about one-thirty o’clock Sunday morning calling firemen to the home of Guy Leiby on the hill in south Thorp.  The east end of the house, upstairs and down is a charred wreck and every room in the house smokey (smoky) black and drenched with water.

A kerosene burner used for heating water in the lavatory at the barbershop, operated by Eugene Brunner, exploded causing a little excitement for a few minutes.

50 Tears Ago (1957)

John Zach, rural Thorp, lost his right forearm in a corn chopping machine Friday afternoon while working on a farm between Hannibal and Jump River.

Between forty and fifty newspaper publishers and commercial printers were in attendance to witness the latest equipment in offset printing, sponsored by several printing concerns and the Thorp Courier.

Richard Wagner, a native of Thorp and son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. S. Wagner, has been named head basketball coach at D. C. Everest High School at Schofield.

25 Years Ago (1982)

On Tuesday evening, September 14, the Thorp Women Aglow Fellowship received its charter papers from Women Aglow Fellowship International.

Jim Albert, Thorp, bow shot a 190 pound dressed male black bear and according to information from Mike Gappa, DNR Wildlife Manager for Clark County, this is the first bow shot in Clark County history.

10 Years Ago (1997)

The members of the 1997 Thorp High School Homecoming Court are Lance Haas, Brianna Baures, Kim Kroll, Jacqi Kellar, Heather Strojny, Alex Whitmire, Ken Kadolph, Jon Williams and Homecoming Queen and King: Beth Wirtala and Jesse Nowobielski.

Frank and Helen Dubiak recently celebrated their 50th Anniversary.

Two area hunters saw success in the opening weekend of bow hunting.  Ray Kliscz and Jesse Nowobielski brought home eight-point bucks.
