St. Hedwig's

There are two St. Hedwig's Churches in Thorp Township. The original church was established in 1891--and a new building later completed in 1906. It is located two miles east of thorp in what was at one time known as Poznan (or Posen or Pozen). In 1950, a catholic school with a chapel was built in the city of Thorp. The "old" St. Hedwig's was closed around 1970 due to dwindling membership and spiraling upkeep of the aged building, and worship moved to the "new" St. Hedwig's chapel in the city of Thorp. The rectory on the site of "old" St. Hedwig's is now the home of the Thorp Area Historical Society.
