Way Back When

There’s a big sale going on at a local farm. This week’s Way Back When photo takes us to a local farmer’s field where they have all their equipment out for auction. Framers of all ages wander around the equipment, looking for a great deal while others stand in a crowd, ready to bid.  Do you know where this photo was taken or whose farm it was for?  Do you know what year this auction took place?  Let us know by contacting The Thorp Courier.

Last week’s Way Back When photo featured a man dressed in a dress shirt and pants out on the pitching mound at a baseball game.  Hank Nowobielski of Thorp identified the man as Frank “Lefty” Winiarczyk. Frank was throwing the first pitch of the game in honor of his retirement from the game.  Frank was nicknamed “Lefty” for being a left-handed pitcher.  He was also known for being the owner of a Ford Sales and Service business in Thorp, Behind Frank was Ralph “Doc” Stuesser, the player that was the shortstop and the second baseman.

For more information on this week's photo, check next week's column.
