Way Back When

 The Thorp Courier  --   January 17, 2007

Look this receipt over carefully and see if you can guess the year it is from. Do you remember the Red Arrow Garage? Where was it located? What can you tell us about this receipt?

For more information on this photo, see next week's issue.

Two Weeks Ago:

Frances Neis, Marian Hull and Eileen Frenette correctly identified the young boy in the January 3, 2007 “Way Back When” as Richard (Ricky) Rasmussen. The photo was taken in 1929 at the William Wagner home where he frequently visited with Alice Wagner on Sunday mornings. Dick is six years old in this photograph. He tells us he was not allowed to wear long pants until he was ten.

Last Week's Photo:

The “Way Back When” photo from the January 10, 2007 issue was the 1951 Thorp football team. John Plansky and Sharon Glasshof guessed correctly. The team was lead by Coach Stu North with quarterbacks Tom Qualle and Jake Phillips. The team had 7-1 seasons, which lead to a conference championship in 1950. Front row: (L-R) Dick Plansky, Dale Glasshof, Len Meyer, Tom Quelle, Rich Swienton, Jake Phillips, Dave Dobrzynski, Joel “Bookie” Schmidt, Don Rubisch, and Bob Wojtalewicz. Second row: Dave Smith, Ed Tomkowiak, Len Zukowski, Roger Turenne, Jim Haas, Don Izydorek, Harley Nerdrum, Jack Dallas, Byron Bogumill, Tom Hirsch, and Joe Gaffny. Back row: Coach Stu North, Arnie Smith, Don Dobrzynski, Ed Haas, Gordy Hauser, Neil Broeren, Rich Vanderhyden, Ed Ciolkosz, Fran Grabon, and Bob Budzinski.
