Sanders, John (11 SEP 1834 - 15 Jul 1916)

Saturday, July 15th, 1916 John Sanders died at his home at Longwood, Clark County, Wis. at the age of eighty-one years, ten months and four days.

Deceased was born Sept. 11th, 1834 in Rutland Co., Vermont. In 1846 he moved to Jefferson Co., Wis. He was united in marriage to Miss Martha A. Mead, July 10th, 1858, the marriage taking place at Watertown, Wis. To this union were born three sons, one of whom died in infancy. In the fall of 1871 they moved to Clark County, where he resided on his farm near Longwood until his death. His wife preceded him in death, she having passed away Dec. 5th, 1915.

John Sanders came to this country when it was mostly a wilderness and through hard work cleared one of the finest farms in the state. He was a kind and loving husband and father and never forgot the hospitable ways of a pioneer.

He leaves to mourn his loss two sons, John E. Sanders, Ransom L. Sanders, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, besides many other relatives and a host of friends.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon July 18th, with interment in the Greenwood Cemetery, Rev. Willmarth officiating.

Ransom Leonard Sanders (1871–1954) was born inn Watertown, Jefferson, WI, the son of John and Martha Mead Sanders, pictured above.  He married Nancy Flint (1874-1944) 22 Feb 1899 in Osborn, Outagamie, Wisconsin.  They had 4 sons: Vernon Sanders, 1902–1955; Lester Harvey Sanders, 1903–1962; Alvin E. Sanders, 1904–1927 and Victor L. Sanders, 1908–1908.

 

Nancy Flint Sanders died 7 Aug 1944 in Wisconsin and Ransom Leonard Sanders died 9 Jan 1954 in Wisconsin and was buried in the Graceland Cemetery, Milwaukee.
