Stabnow, August F. (28 AUG 1868 - 15 MAY 1953)

August F. Stabnow was born Aug. 28, 1868, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Stabnow, at North Freedom, Wis. He spent his early years at Maple Hill, Wis. As one of a family of thirteen children. On July 11, 1898 he was united in marriage to Rachel ward, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David M. Ward, at Cooperstown, N.D., by the Rev. O. D. Purington, pastor of the First Baptist Church. They lived in Cooperstown until November of that year, when they moved to a farm six miles northeast of Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.). In 1944 they moved to the City of Greenwood where they have since resided.

To this union were born five children: Leroy of Mellen; Mrs. Vern (Luella) Severson, Greenwood; Mrs. Vaner (Anna) Lindgren, Owen; Mrs. Wm. (Bessie) Rohloff and Ethel. Mrs. Rohloff and Ethel preceded their father in death.

Mr. Stabnow underwent an operation on his eyes at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire, about three weeks ago. He later developed flue infection and passed away on Friday, May 15, 1953 at 9:15 a.m.

The body was brought to the Stabnow Funeral Home where it lay in state until Tuesday noon when it was taken to the rural Missions church.

Funeral services were held there at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Willis Johnson, Pastor Rev. Lawrence Oman of Chippewa Falls and Rev. Wm. Summer of Merrillan, officiating. Mr. Stabnow was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery. Rev. Summer officiated at the graveside services.

During the service the trio consisting of Rev. and Mrs. Willis Johnson and Mrs. Kenneth Worden sang "Saved by Grace," "Going Down the Valley" and "Beyond the Sunset," accompanied by Mrs. Merrill Dunn. Miss Worden read the poem, "Should you Go First," by Albert K. Rowswell, during which Mrs. Dunn accompanied on the organ.

The pallbearers were Leo Bredesen, harry Richardson, Merrill Dunn, Warren Worden, Walter Acker and Dave Danielson.

Those in charge of the flowers were June Bredesen, Mrs. Emil Richardson and Mrs. Ernest Richardson.

Mr. Stabnow is survived by hsi wife and above named children, nineteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Amelia Steuber, Prairie du Sac and a brother, Ernest of Reedsburg.

C. (Siegfried) Stabnaw, pioneer and one of the oldest residents in the town of Freedom, died at his home in the town of Freedom Tuesday night, aged about 89 years. He had been ill for about two weeks with paralysis. Besides his wife (Augusta Zastrow), he leaves nine sons and daughters: Herman Stabnaw, South Dakota William Stabnaw, Greenwood, Wis. Henry Stabnaw, Greenwood, Wis. August Stabnaw. Greenwood, Wis. Mrs. George Sullivan, North Freedom Mrs. Daniel Steuber, Honey Creek Ernest Stabnaw, Freedom Paul Stabnaw, Freedom Mrs. Anna Simon, Westfield Funeral on Friday at 11 o’clock; interment at Denzer.
